about the teaching
What Vedānta Is
Vedanta does not ask us to become something new. It reveals what has always been true.
Vedānta is a means of knowledge that enquires into the nature of the self and reality. Rooted in the Upaniṣads, it addresses the questions that remain when our more immediate concerns have been answered.
Who am I, beneath the roles and experiences that continually change? What is the nature of the world I experience? Is lasting freedom possible?
This page offers an introduction to the teaching we belong to and the way we share it in the world today.
The Fundamental Question
Everything we ordinarily use to define ourselves changes. The body changes. Thoughts come and go. Emotions rise and fall. Roles shift. Circumstances never stay the same.
Vedānta enquires into that which knows every change: that which is present through it all.
Who am I?
Not a new
experience.
A clear
recognition.
Not a belief, a means of knowledge
Vedānta is sometimes taken to be a philosophy. The teaching points elsewhere. It is not a system of belief to adopt, but a means of knowledge through which what has been overlooked may be revealed.
The movement of the teaching
THE HUMAN PROBLEM
We seek lasting freedom through experiences and circumstances that cannot last.
ENQUIRY
The assumptions we hold about ourselves, the world and the source of happiness are carefully examined.
DISCERNMENT
We learn to distinguish between what changes and that which is present through every change.
KNOWLEDGE
The self is recognised as whole, limitless and never truly bound.
How the Teaching Unfolds
Iha · Here
Vedānta is not separate from life. It meets us in the midst of it.
It does not ask us to withdraw from the world, deny our responsibilities or become indifferent to experience.
It helps us see more clearly while acting, relating, choosing and responding.
The teaching belongs wherever life is actually being lived.
What and How
A willingness to enquire. Patience with the teaching. Honesty about what is actually experienced.
The humility to listen before reaching conclusions.
Vedānta does not demand blind belief. It asks for careful listening, reflection and a willingness to see what has previously gone unquestioned.
Our Approach
We uphold the integrity of the classical teaching with humility and clarity.
Our study is grounded in the Yoga Sūtras, Tantra, Shaivite influences, and the foundational commentaries, and the living guidance of our teachers.
We meet each student where they are, and support steady, intelligent practice that touches every part of life.
"Knowledge of reality is not progressive with steps. Knowledge is always of what is."

Vedānta Lives in the Midst of Life
In a difficult conversation.
When the identity we defend is brought into question.
In the loss of what we relied upon.
When change reveals the limits of external security.
In the quiet between two thoughts.
When nothing needs to be added for awareness to be present.
The teaching points to what is always present
