Workshops

A space for inquiry, reflection and living teachings.
Some offerings are available now, others are unfolding and may be shaped by the interests of the community

Why Workshops?

Shorter In Duration,

Not in Depth

Unlike retreats, workshops do not ask you to step away from your life for long – they invite you to bring your real, everyday life into clearer focus for a few hours or a weekend. In that small window, you can meet a teaching or a practice that quietly changes how you see yourself, others, and the situations you’re in.

Our workshops are rooted in the living traditions of Vedāntic Philosophy and Yoga,  offered in plain language and simple practice. You might come for the breath, for stillness, or for the sacred sounds of Saṃskṛtam – whatever brings you here, you are welcome exactly as you are.

The Humble Way
Humility as the Heart of Spiritual Growth

"The mind that knows itself to be empty is the only mind that can truly receive."

Humility is not weakness or self-diminishment. It is Vinaya - the quality of openness, of stepping back from what you think you already know so that genuine understanding can enter.

This is the foundational workshop, the one to attend first. Not because there is technique to master, but because humility is the ground on which all authentic learning rests. Without it, knowledge becomes merely another belief we defend. With it, teaching can actually transform us.

In this inquiry, we explore together: What happens when you release your grip on what you believe you know? What gets in the way of genuine receptivity? What is the quality of the mind that can truly listen - to a teaching, to another person, to life itself? Through direct exploration and guided inquiry, you discover that humility is not something to acquire, but something to recognise when the obstacles to it fall away.

What You Will Explore

  • Vinaya - the quality of receptivity and respect that opens understanding
  • What prevents genuine listening - the mechanisms of certainty and defence
  • The relationship between humility and transformation in learning
  • Direct inquiry into the quality of an open, receptive mind
  • How humility serves as the foundation for all deeper practice
  • The paradox: you cannot acquire humility, only recognise when it is present

Registering for a workshop on humility begins the practice itself. Honesty with yourself, honesty with others - this is the very foundation of a spiritual path.

To bring these teachings takes real effort - logistics, preparation, decades of learning and practice. Your contribution, whatever it is, supports this work directly and makes it possible for Yoga Prabodhana to continue offering teachings, developing new programmes, and keeping them accessible to all.

When you register, you are invited to give honestly. Not what you think you should give, but what genuinely reflects your means and your appreciation for this work. Give honestly - and in doing so, you have already begun.

A Life Well Lived
A Yogi's Ethics Beyond the Mat

"Ethics are not rules imposed from without. They are the natural expression of a mind that sees clearly."

The Yamas and Niyamas form the foundation of yoga as defined in the Patañjali Sutras. They are not commandments, but observations - ways of aligning your life with truth so that deeper practice becomes possible.

Following on from the retreat, this series offers a way to deepen your engagement with these ten principles and keep building community together. Each session explores one Yama, one Niyama, or a related topic - both philosophically and practically, so you can see how they already live in your daily life.

What You Will Explore

  • The ten Yamas and Niyamas as defined in the Patañjali Sutras
  • The philosophical foundation of each principle
  • How the Yamas and Niyamas prepare the ground for deeper yoga practice
  • Practical application in daily life - relationships, work, inner struggles
  • Self-inquiry: where you already embody these, and where you resist
  • Morning āsana and closing meditation

Yamas and Niyamas Card Deck

As an optional companion to this workshop, we have created a deck of ten cards, one for each of the Yamas and Niyamas. They are designed to carry the practice beyond the session and into daily life: a teaching, a reflection, and an invitation to practice on every card.

LEARN MORE →

The Yamas and Niyamas ask us to look honestly at how we live, and that includes how we give. Dana is not a transaction. It is an acknowledgement that something of real value has been received.

These teachings have been carried across generations - an investment of time, learning, dedication. Your contribution supports this work directly and makes it possible for Yoga Prabodhana to continue offering teachings and keeping them accessible to all.

Give what genuinely reflects your means and your appreciation. The suggested amount is a guide, not a ceiling or a floor.

प्राणम्

Yoga & Prāṇa

Yoga & Prāṇa

"Breath as Bridge"

The breath is the most immediate gateway to the life-force itself. In this full-day immersion, we explore prāṇa - not merely as respiratory mechanics, but as the animating intelligence moving through all things. Beginning with āsana to awaken the body, we move progressively into prāṇāyāma, discovering how each breath technique shapes awareness, stabilises the nervous system, and opens the way inward.

We explore the five vāyus - Prāṇa, Apāna, Samāna, Udāna, and Vyāna - understanding their seats, their qualities, and how imbalances in prāṇa manifest in the body and mind. The day closes with an extended silent sitting, anchored in the breath.

What You Will Explore

  • The prāṇa vāyus - their locations, functions, and felt qualities
  • Foundational prāṇāyāma: Nādī Śodhana, Ujjāyī, Bhramari, Śītalī
  • The relationship between breath, bandha, and mudrā
  • Prāṇa as understood in the Taittirīya and Praśna Upaniṣads
  • Guided prāṇāyāma sequences for daily home practice
  • Morning āsana and closing meditation

Samyama

Samyama

"The Art of Absorption"

In the third chapter of Patañjali's Yoga Sūtras, samyama is described as the simultaneous, unified movement of dhāraṇā (concentration), dhyāna (meditation), and samādhi (absorption) upon a single object. This is not three sequential steps - it is one act of gathering, deepening, and dissolving.

Over a weekend of silence, practice, and guided enquiry, we work with samyama as a living method - moving from the concrete to the subtle, from object to awareness itself. Periods of guided practice alternate with teaching, inquiry, and rest. Silence is maintained between sessions throughout the weekend.

What You Will Explore

  • Patañjali's Yoga Sūtras, Chapters II-III: sūtra study in translation
  • Dhāraṇā practice: object-based concentration methods
  • Dhyāna: the transition from doing to being
  • Working with the kleśas as objects of samyama
  • Whole-group guided sitting sessions (45-75 mins each)
  • One-to-one guidance available on Saturday evening

योगनिद्रा

Yoga Nidrā

Yoga Nidrā

"Conscious Rest - The Gateway"

Yoga Nidrā - yogic sleep - is a state of deep, effortless awareness poised at the threshold between waking and sleep. Unlike ordinary rest, which is largely unconscious, Yoga Nidrā cultivates pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses) while maintaining the witnessing awareness.

This half-day workshop is offered both as a complete practice in itself and as a gentle invitation to those drawn to deeper practices of samyama. We explore the tradition behind Yoga Nidrā, the five kośas (sheaths of being), and then enter two extended guided sessions of practice. No previous yoga experience is required - you need only bring yourself and a willingness to rest.

What You Will Explore

  • The tradition of Yoga Nidrā and its place within Yoga
  • The pañcakośa model: the five sheaths from body to ānanda
  • Setting the saṅkalpa - a resolve planted in the most fertile field of the mind
  • Rotation of consciousness, visualisation, and the hypnagogic threshold
  • Two full guided Yoga Nidrā sessions (45 mins each)
  • Home practice guide and audio recording to take away

Silence & Recognition

Silence & Recognition

"You are not the problem you came with. Not fixing. Not acquiring. Recognising - beginning with where you are looking from."

The work does not begin with the problem. It begins with the one looking at it.

This approach is rooted in the Recognition, drawn from the living tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, that Consciousness is never fragmented - only apparently veiled. What presents as dysfunction, confusion, or suffering is not an error to be corrected but a contraction to be seen through.

The primary instrument of this seeing is Silence - not as absence, but as the ground from which all experience arises and to which it returns. Before any technique, before any framework, Silence is both the method and the destination.

Rather than addressing the alleged issue directly, the inquiry begins at the point of perception itself: from where is this person looking? The angle of vision determines what is seen. Shift the angle, and the problem does not disappear - it loses its apparent solidity.

Abhyāsa and Vairāgya - sustained practice and the willingness to release - provide the living architecture of this process. They are not disciplines imposed from outside but the natural movement of a mind beginning to trust its own depth. It is within this framework that what is commonly called meditation is demystified: not a technique to acquire, but a recognition of what is already, and has always been, present.

What You Will Explore

  • Recognition - the Kashmir Shaivism understanding that Consciousness is already whole
  • Inquiry into the point of perception: from where are you looking?
  • Silence as ground - not a technique but the source from which all experience arises
  • Abhyāsa and Vairāgya - sustained practice and the willingness to release
  • Meditation demystified - not something to acquire, but something to recognise

मन्त्रम्

Mantra & Saṃskṛtam

Mantra, Śloka & Basic Saṃskṛtam

"The Living Word"

Saṃskṛtam is not merely a language - it is a science of sound. The ancient seers understood that certain arrangements of syllables carry inherent power (śakti), that correct pronunciation (ucchāraṇa) is not just precision but an act of resonance between the speaker and what is spoken.

This workshop opens two doors at once: the outer door of Saṃskṛtam as a spoken, felt language - its alphabet, vowels, consonants, and the music of its grammar - and the inner door of mantra and śloka as living practice. You do not need to be a scholar to begin. You need only a willingness to listen, to sound, and to be sounded.

What You Will Explore

  • The Devanāgarī script: vowels (svaras) and consonants (vyañjanas)
  • Correct pronunciation of foundational bīja mantras: Oṃ, Aiṃ, Hrīṃ, Klīṃ
  • Chanting the Gāyatrī Mantra: meaning, metre, and meditation
  • Introduction to selected ślokas from the Bhagavad Gītā and Upaniṣads
  • Understanding sandhi and the flow of Saṃskṛtam sound
  • Practical chanting session: call-and-response guided by the teacher

Intimate & Unhurried

Groups are kept small – sixteen participants at most. This allows for genuine attention, individual guidance, and the kind of quiet that allows depth to arise naturally.

    दान

    A Note on Dāna

The tradition of dāna - wholehearted giving - is the spirit in which these workshops are offered. The suggested donation covers the practical costs of holding this space. If you are moved to give beyond that, it supports the continuation of this work and the ability to offer concessions to those who need them.

If the suggested amount presents a genuine difficulty, please write to us quietly. No one is ever turned away for want of means.

In the spirit of the tradition: whatever you give, give it whole-heartedly. Whatever you receive, receive it the same way.

    Questions

If your question is not here, please do write to us - we are always glad to hear from you.

It depends on the workshop. Yoga Nidrā and Mantra & Saṃskṛtam are fully open to beginners - no prior experience is needed, only willingness. The Yoga & Prāṇa workshop is suitable for those with some āsana background, and Samyama is offered to those who already have an established meditation or contemplative practice. Each listing notes the prerequisite clearly, and we are always happy to discuss whether a workshop is right for you.

Most workshops are offered both in-person and online, with the exception of Samyama, which requires physical presence. Online participants receive a private link and join in real time - the sessions are interactive, not pre-recorded. We ask that online participants have a quiet space and a reliable connection, and that they are available for the full duration without interruption.

All workshops are offered on a dāna basis - a suggested donation will be given for each workshop to help cover costs. We are committed to keeping these teachings accessible. If the suggested amount is genuinely out of reach, please write to us before enquiring - we will always try to find a way. No one is ever turned away for want of means.

Comfortable clothing you can move and sit in. A mat and blanket will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own. For Yoga Nidrā, we encourage an eye pillow or soft cloth for the eyes. A light breakfast before the morning sessions is suggested; lunch is on your own and there are local options nearby. We ask that you do not wear strong fragrances out of consideration for others.

Absolutely - and many participants find that the workshops nourish one another. The Yoga Nidrā workshop, in particular, is a natural companion to both Prāṇa and Samyama. If you attend two or more workshops, please mention this when enquiring and we will do our best to accommodate you.

A retreat at Yoga Prabodhana is typically several days of residential immersion - a full stepping-away from ordinary life. Workshops are self-contained gatherings of a few hours or a weekend, without the residential element (except Samyama, which includes an optional overnight). Both offer depth; a workshop simply requires less time and logistical commitment, making it accessible to those with work, family, or other commitments.
